About Us
We are a new local business, based in Hertfordshire reaching out to local schools and councils about our Youth Mentoring Service. The aim of this service is to provide young people and their families, with an individually tailored approach in order to enable them to reach their full potential. This would be specifically for those with SEMH and/or SEND, who are struggling within an educational setting and would benefit from 1:1 support.
Despite the progress that has been made by the local council to accommodate the needs of those struggling within a mainstream school, we are aware that there is still a lack of local provision in Hertfordshire, highlighted by OFSTED in 2023. With the rise in the number of young people not in education, employment or training, we understand the importance of providing children with the earliest intervention, in order to set them up for a bright and positive future.
Having both worked in the educational sector for 25 years combined, we are passionate about supporting young people to thrive, especially those who have specific needs that may not be able to be met in a mainstream classroom.
Katie is a highly experienced primary school teacher in Harpenden (specialising in ages 3-7) recently graded outstanding by OFSTED. She is currently the phonics lead, as well as part of the English Leadership Team. She has a wealth of experience working with children with SEND, including those with speech and communication problems, neurodiversity, behavioural issues and mental health needs. Katie has frequently led various training programs on INSET days and staff meetings in order to educate others in supporting the needs of young people.
Sophie has spent 7 years in a TA and pastoral role at a Harpenden secondary school, supporting those with SEMH and SEND needs. She has a degree in Child and Adolescent Studies, specialising in mental health and the youth justice system and has recently qualified as an integrative therapeutic counsellor (Level 4.2). She is also currently a self-employed Youth mentor, working within Hertfordshire supporting young people unable to attend mainstream school.
We both have current DBS checks, annual safeguarding and first aid training.
Together, we want to provide a non-judgemental and empathic approach to young people. We believe that every young person has unique strengths, talents and challenges and we will strive to understand and support each individual in a way that is tailored to their needs. Our goal would be to help young people develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to succeed in life.
